FDM, Fused Deposition Modeling technology is a powerful Stratasys-patented Additive Manufacturing method. Parts built with this system can withstand heat, chemicals, humid or dry environments and mechanical stress. Rapid prototyping 3D printers with Fused Deposition Modeling technology build parts layer-by-layer according to software-controlled paths. FDM uses two materials to execute a print job: modeling material, which constitutes the finished piece, and support material, which acts as scaffolding. Once the process is completed, the user breaks the support material away or dissolves it in a water-based solution and the part is ready to use.
